Statistician - Statistical Genetics

GSK's Genetics division, headed by Lon Cardon, applies human genetics
expertise to projects in all phases of GSK's pipeline, primarily focussing
on the detection of individual variants contributing to drug response or
to adverse drug reactions and on supporting new target identification and
validation by innovative uses of genetic data.
The Statistical Genetics group is part of this division and consists of a
number of researchers, split between the US and the UK. The group is
responsible for design, analysis, and interpretation of genetic and
pharmacogenetic data across the drug discovery portfolio. Additionally the
group's objective is to develop and implement novel methods to enhance the
division's research and then support the adaptation of these throughout
the organisation. We work closely with colleagues in the genetics
division, elsewhere in GSK and in external academic institutions to
achieve these objectives.
We now have an opportunity for a Statistician - Statistical Genetics to
join the team. In this role your key responsibilities will be:
Identify existing, or develop new, methods and capabilities that can
improve design, analysis, and/or interpretation of genetic and
pharmacogenetic data. Evaluate, implement, test, validate, and make
recommendations for internal use.
Promote the adaptation of new methods and capabilities through the
development of user-appropriate implementations and training
Deliver analytical and consultative support for design, analysis, and
interpretation of pharmacogenetic and other genetics studies.
Educate others about new statistical methodologies relevant for
pharmacogenetics.
Able to contribute to multiple active projects and deliver results to meet
required timelines.

Basic Qualifications
Relevant post graduate degree, for example in statistics, computing,
genetic epidemiology or similar quantitative field
Strong statistical and computational skills
Understanding of statistical genetics /genetic epidemiology
Proven ability to perform independent research
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience of collaborative, multidisciplinary research
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a scientific or technological
project
Thorough knowledge and experience of the drug discovery and development
process
Demonstrated proficiency in prioritising and coordinating several areas of
work.
