Statistician DDS / Statistical Sciences UK
Ware - Hertfordshire, South East England
GlaxoSmithKline is a world leading research-based pharmaceutical company
that combines both individual talent and technical resources to create a
platform for the delivery for strong growth in a rapidly changing healthcare
market. Our mission is to improve the quality of human life by enabling people
to do more, feel better and live longer.
We have an excellent opportunity for an applied statistician to work at Ware
in the non-clinical area of pre-clinical development as a member of our
Statistical Sciences Europe Department. Much of your time will be spent
working with those developing the formulation and devices for respiratory
medicines for diseases like Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
However, there will be opportunities to work on the formulation of many
medicines e.g. tablets and capsules.
Quality by Design is an initiative from the Food and Drug Administration which
needs greater modeling of our processes. This requires statistical skills and
hence the demand for statistical expertise is increasing in the non-clinical
development of our medicines. It is an exciting time to be working with
pharmacists on our formulations. There will also be the opportunity to work
with scientists on studies to assess the safety of our medicines.
As part of our team you will rapidly develop your statistical expertise in a wide
variety of methodologies including linear and non-linear modeling, design of
experiments and their analysis, multivariate methods and modeling based on a
Bayesian Paradigm. You will have a creative flair for applying statistical
knowledge to the scientific problems we encounter.
You should have a post-graduate qualification in statistics or a first degree
with a large statistical component and some relevant experience. Although
previous experience in non-clinical development would be advantageous it is
not essential. You’ll ideally have some experience in programming in a major
statistical package such as SAS or S-plus. Crucial to this opportunity is that
you should have outstanding communication skills and the drive to interact
successfully with colleagues at all levels and influence statistical practice.
Closing date for applications: Friday 2nd October 2009.
