Colleagues
I'm interested in getting case studies or examples of buildings that are
currently allowing for use of non-evacuation lifts for evacuation of people
with disabilities. This approach is such a complete reversal to the
traditional and entrenched thinking of 'Do Not Use The Lift In Case Of
Fire' that I've found it difficult to get case studies of organisations who
are taking this approach today.
I attended the very interesting seminar on BS 9999 organised by the Access
Association in Leeds yesterday. The most valuable part of the seminar for
me was when David Smith (the knowledgeable speaker on BS 9999) mentioned
the Inner Temple in London as one example of a building that has allowed
for use of non-evacuation lifts in its evacuation plan.
If you are aware of any other buildings that have built this approach into
their evacuation plan (or better still, if you have any articles or
write-ups that detail this approach), I would be very interested to hear
from you.
Best regards
Shane
