Starting salary £26,610 - £29,566 (Statistical Scientist) or £33,780 -
£37,534 (Senior Statistical Scientist), plus contributory public sector
pension scheme.
Biomathematics & Statistics Scotland (BioSS) has an international
reputation for methodological development in statistics, mathematical
modelling and bioinformatics. BioSS offers a stimulating working
environment, with over 30 staff at four different locations, working on
applications in plant science, animal health and welfare, ecology &
environmental science and nutrition & human health
We seek an enthusiastic statistician with a strong technical training
who wishes to develop a career at the interface between statistical and
scientific research. The post-holder will work on a range of
applications from our Edinburgh office, addressing topics in animal
disease, crop and environmental research. These applications will form
the basis for methodological research to be pursued within one of our
three research themes.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a sound grasp of traditional
statistical methodologies along with awareness of modern methods and
their potential. Excellent communication skills and an aptitude for
collaborating with research scientists will be required, along with an
ability to work independently in pursuit of new methodologies and novel
applications. Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification in
statistics or with a major statistical element (PhD, or MSc/MRes with at
least two years postgraduate employment). Further experience and a
substantial record of scientific publications will be required for
appointment to the higher grade.
