Hi Claire folks,
We've run a number of CMS at the MMU, some specific to certain drives like mediawiki, drupal, but the easiest family to administer
and implement is the WP one.
I have rolled out a couple of WPMU installs where we expect a site to grow into dramatic new areas of interest, and we use the
/bloga /blogb ability of multiple blog hosting to devolve content creation, kind of compartmentalise matters. The speed and ease
of deployment for new sites is really hard to match.
I use a couple of wpmu community plugins to aid deployment, for instance one which allows default settings for plugins and themes,
and so on.
Developmental releases are much better controlled and implemented now than they used to be, and WPMU can generally be expected to
keep up with developments of WP quickly, but I have to say the lead developers including Donncha really try to make sure the new
facilities work well with the WPMU vehicle before implementing things.
All in all I think its one of the most consistently well designed and implemented CMS for mass blogging, and the slightly
customised variant running wordpress.com with it's a millions of blogs says something about its robustness.
Best wishes
Steve

Subject: WordPress MU/institutional blogging
Hello all!
Has anyone else looked into, or used, http://mu.wordpress.org/ for multiple
instances of Wordpress?
Or does any else use something else for 'institutional' blogging?
Cheers
C.
