Colleagues
I trust this posting is not to tenuously linked to the transportation
theme ... it relates to a rather unique and somewhat challenging way
of moving people (in fact a person) from A to B at speed (1000 mph in
fact)
http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/adventure/the_desert/verneuk_pan_survey_trip.cfm
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verneukpan )
The enquiry relates to the investigation of Verneuk Pan as a track for
the Bloodhound SSC ( see above) and the unique behaviour of the
dessicated surface under solid alloy wheels rotating at up to 10,000
rpm
Is anyone aware of any experts at their establishment who have studied
the nature of the deposits on the Verneuk Pan?
The sedimentology, mineralogy and/or hydrology of this feature may
have been studied by them and we need to speak with them to discuss
what they know - I am especially interested in talking to anyone
based in SA where their geology or earth sciences department may be
able to add some valuable input.
Many Thanks..... back to less exciting means of mass transit
