About the Seminar
In 2008, for the first time in history, half of the global population will live in cities. Nearly all population growth this century is projected to occur in urban areas. This lecture will explore connections between air pollution, health, and land-use patterns, in the context of urban transportation.
Marshall will discuss three areas of his current research: (1) health and environmental justice aspects of diesel emissions, (2) satellite evidence on the interplay between urban form and air quality, and (3) neighbourhood pedestrian-friendliness and air pollution.
Marshall is an assistant professor in Civil Engineering at University of Minnesota. He also holds appointments in Urban & Regional Planning, Public Health, and Mechanical Engineering.
