The University of Bolton has established a doctoral research studentship
in collaboration with NHS Bolton (Primary Care Trust) and Bolton Council
as part of their shared commitment to service user involvement in the
development and delivery of health services and associated professional
education. Carole Truman, Professor of Health and Community Studies
will be Director of Studies for the studentship.
The studentship will form part of a new Centre for Health and Wellbeing
on the University Campus in the town centre of Bolton. This facility
will include extensive clinical services including urgent care; a new
sports and leisure complex; and university teaching facilities for
health and related social care. It offers a unique opportunity to
develop services and related educational professional education
programmes that integrates service provision and education. From the
outset these developments need to involve the users of the services and
the wider community. The School of Health and Social Sciences was
recently recognised by the Research Assessment Exercise for its world
leading performance in community based health research. NHS Bolton has
recently been designated a Teaching PCT. We therefore wish to build
upon our partnership and expertise in participatory community based
health research and service design to develop effective user
involvement.
