Think-Lab currently has a vacancy for an account manager/science writer, to work on a
range of projects, including the science magazine we produce on behalf of one of our
clients.
The is an exciting opportunity within a small but well-respected communications
consultancy, which would offer the right candidate the chance to take on a role in the
heat of the science communication community.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of news values, be able to write about
science for a lively and non-technical manner and have good administrative skills as well
as lots of initiative. Salary in the region of £18-21k, depending upon experience.

Job Description: Account executive/Science Writer
Reports to: Director
Staff managed: None
Based: Westminster
Function of job
The account executive/science writer will work across our client accounts, taking the lead
on producing content for our clients science magazines and websites and providing
general support to the Director to help the smooth running and development of the
business.
For the right candidate, the role has the potential to be extended beyond the initial one
year and to develop towards account manager.
Main Duties
Researching and drafting copy for clients magazines, websites, brochures etc.
Managing the printing and distribution of client magazines and brochures
Providing research and admin support for other client projects and the Director
Maintaining the Think-Lab website and mailing list
Providing input into pitches and helping attract new business
Any other reasonable duties
Essential Skills and Experience

First-class written English
Strong skills in writing science for non-scientific audiences
Understanding of news values and ability to identify the news in a science story
Ability to work to tight deadlines
Good time management and organisational skills
Ability to work unsupervised
Flexible and mature approach to work



Desirable skills and experience

Experience in writing science for a non-technical audience (on a student newspaper
for example)
Degree in science based subject
Experience of or qualification in communications/PR
Experience of managing projects
Understanding of science and society issues
