Dear all - please do pass this on to anyone you think might be
interested. We will also be advertising a PhD studentship shortly on
similar lines.
Best wishes,
Ian.

We are a leading international research and policy Institute looking
for a Research Fellow to work on a new project funded by the
Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to build a
large scale federated sensor network framework with multiple
applications sharing the same resources. This will require expertise
in the design, analysis, simulation, deployment and evaluation of
secure, privacy-enforcing distributed sensor systems.
Wireless sensor networks are more and more seen as a solution to large-
scale tracking and monitoring applications. A central controlling
entity usually handles the deployment and management of these
networks, and the sensor network is often dedicated to a single
application. We argue that this is due to the fact that we do not yet
have the means to deal with a secure multi-purpose federated sensor
network, running different applications in parallel and able to
reconfigure dynamically to run others. The communication paradigms
which have been usually devised for small and single owner sensor
networks simply do not have the right scalability, security,
reconfigurability characteristics required for this environment.
With FedeRatEd Secure sensor NEtwork Laboratory (FRESNEL) we aim to
build a large scale federated sensor network framework with multiple
applications sharing the same resources. We want to guarantee a
reliable intra-application communication as well as a scalable and
distributed management infrastructure. Orthogonally, privacy and
application security should also be maintained.
Based in the heart of Oxford, this full-time post is available from 1
January 2010 for three years.
