clare- We have a small number of bones (skull, pelvis, limb bones from
memory)- of course you could measure them, or I'll measure them for
you. The book Kate mentioned is by Errol Fuller. You could also try
Anthony Gaston, who has written a couple of books about the Auks- he
was studying the economics of Funk Island I think- when he wrote 'Who
Killed the Great Auk'. I am not sure where he is based.
There is a very good scale engraving in Transactions of the Zoological
Society of London 1865, vol 5. This article, by Richard Owen, probably
also has measurements.
