When I visited the Cerro Muriano recently, I learned that, on the 5th August, the Junta de Andalucía had defined the mine and smelter remains as an industrial archeology site of historical interest and assured its preservation. Part of the site had previously been within the military training area but this has now been sold to the town hall.
The most visible remains are from the "English" period that ended in 1919 but mining was practiced here in pre-Roman and Roman times too. Those who know the site will be delighted, those who don't might try a glance at the Museo del Cobre internet site.
