Could there be some confusion here with the name?
There is a the parish of Mordington in Berwickshire
In the First Statistical Account of Scotland it refers to there being in the
parish "coal and iron ore also make their appearance" . The Second
Statistical Account makes reference to the coal workings but no reference to
iron ore.
In Pigot and Co's 'National Commercial Directory of the whole of Scotland,
and of the Isle of Man' dated 1837 [see google books] it refers to in the
parish of Foulden and Mordington "Ironstone has recently been discovered
here on the estate of Alexander C Renton of Mordington House"

Dear All,
In his Bibliography of Scottish [Non-Coal] Mines, Tony Oldham lists
"Crockett, W S 1926 Berwickshire and Roxburghshire. Cambridge County
Geographies" with ironstone at Mordingham (inter alia). Google Maps doesn't
hit & a friend who is native of area hasn't heard of the place. Any
thoughts?
TIA, Kindest regards,
Ken Smith.
