The Society for the History of Alchemy and Chemistry is holding a meeting
entitled “Chymistry and Mechanism in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth
Centuries” on Saturday 14 November 2009 at the Clore Buildng of Birkbeck
College, Malet Street, London, beginning at 11.00am in Room G01 (Ground
floor). Programme
11.00 am: Solange Gonzalez : ‘Le role de la chimie dans les débats autour de
l’occasionnalisme dans la seconde moitie du XVIIe siécle" (in French).
12.00 pm: Anne-Lise Rey: ‘La place de la chimie dans la philosophie
naturelle de
G.W. Leibniz: la compréhension leibnizienne des mutations chimiques de
la matière partir de la correspondance entre Leibniz et Hartsoeker’
(in French).
1.00 pm: Lunch
2.30 pm: SHAC AGM
3.00 pm: Bernard Joly: ‘Between Newton and Stahl, Etienne-François Geoffroy
and the chemical mistrust of mechanism" (in English).
4.00 pm: Remi Franckowiak: ‘Du Clos and the mechanization of chemical
philosophy’ (in English).
5.00 pm: Drinks reception
The meeting will close at 18.00.
The meeting is open to all at a fee of £10.00 (including drinks reception).
