Dear All,
This questionnaire is being distributed as part of the research for the
dissertation element of a Library and Information Studies MA degree from
University College London. The aims of this research are as follows:
* To establish the reasons for which men and women choose to enter
librarianship, as well as the reasons for which they may choose to
eliminate it as a career option.
* To investigate the implications for library staff of the
imbalance in the library workforce between men and women.
* To explore the place of masculinity and the male role as
conventionally perceived in library work.
* To assess the level of gender equality in opportunities for
advancement into library management.
* To examine popular perceptions and stereotypes of male
librarians and their effect on male library staff.
* To observe the possible similarities and differences in the
social and working behaviour of male and female library staff.
Given the breadth of these aims, and the distribution of the survey to a
variety of library staff, it is anticipated that not all questions will
be appropriate for all respondents. Please give answers to only those
questions which you feel apply to your particular role and experiences.
If you wish to express a neutral response, you may leave a question
blank.
There are two surveys: one for male library staff and another for female
library staff. Please click on the appropriate link below:
