italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
For what it's worth, my guess is that "in cidelle" means "in rings" or "in round
shapes." Carlo Salvioni (Archivio glottologico italiano 16.2 (1904): p. 296)
registers "cidella" as a Trentino dialect word for "girella" (Mantuan
"zidella").
If you put "cidella" and "tortura" into Google books, you find another instance
of it meaning "girella" in the sense of "pulley" (evidently, the strappado) but
putting in "cidella" together with "lapislazuli" gives you "ring" - as in
jewelry.
I hope that this may, in some way, come in handy. Good luck,
Michael
