Hi Mike & Nick,
I tend to agree with Mike that many of the %ages are either unknown or else are unknowable. (Ahh!! I'm starting to write like Donald Rumfelt!!!!)
-We have all the LBs, so that was 100%
-We don't record placenames, so that was 0%
But when it came to the non-listed industrial buildings that was just a guestimate.

Nick,
Many of the questions in Section 2 on Records look unanswerable to me.
Whereas in the 2005 survey you asked for a rough quantification, the
2009 survey asks for a percentage. How is it possible to give a
percentage of the number of place names, boundaries, industrial sites,
palaeoenvironmental sites or even historic buildings in a particular
area? Given unlimited resources it would be of value to put say every
pre-1950 building on the HER but I have no idea how many of these there
are in my area, nor can I assess how many place names there are - how
large is somewhere before it becomes a place? And as for boundaries
what does this mean - every wall, hedgerow etc in the whole of
Wolverhampton or wherever. Whereas in the 2005 survey I was able to
answer Many, Few etc I have no idea of percentages. What ahve others
done?
Regards,
Mike

Subject: Content and Computing Survey 2009: Section 5
Dear All
There have been some enquiries relating to section 5 of the recently
distributed Content and Computing Survey 2009 which deals with Archive
Materials. Respondents are querying how the percentage column used here
is to be used and what this is a percentage of. For the sake of
consistency could those presently working on the form please employ the
following criterion:
Try to express as a percentage the proportion of those archives/photos
etc which are indexed within your record for which the actual archive
(in hard or digital copy) is held by the HER (only a very approximate
figure is required).
I hope that this helps to resolve matters
Best wishes
Nick
