Four ESRC PhD studentships are available to start this autumn in the Centre for Translational Research in Public Health, a UKCRC public health research centre of excellence. Three studentships will be based in the Institute of Health & Society at Newcastle University, and one in the School of Medicine and Health, at Durham University. All studentships will be jointly supervised by senior academics from two of the five universities within the Centre. All studentships are available as 3 year or 4 year (1+3 - MSc + PhD) studentships. The studentships are ONLY available to United Kingdom and European Union nationals.
Three of the studentships are funded by ESRC under the jointly funded e-health infrastructure initiative, which is led by the NIHR capacity building programme, and aims to build capacity for future research using personalised electronic health records. These three studentships will involve quantitative methods, including data linkage and the research will be undertaken in collaboration with the North East Public Health Observatory (NEPHO). The fourth studentship is open to candidates with suitable experience and interest in health psychology.
Further details of all four studentships can be found on our web site at:

Closing date is 26th august 2009.
We would be grateful if you could bring these studentship to the attention of any promising candidates.
Many thanks.
