Dear All,
We have four of these artificial moulds, made in a viscous lava, at the
OUMNH :
one has a male head on one side, and volcanic eruption (with date 1868),
on the other;
the second has a female head on one side, and ?'Regina Victoria 1859' on
the other;
the third has a coin, with date 1847 pressed therein;
and the fourth has 'Cavata dal duca della torre' on one side, and 'Lava
del Vesuvio del 1.Aprile. 1820.' on the other.
We probably do have photos, but haven't got them to hand at the moment .....
Regards
Joy

I had some discussion with Craig Barclay who was Keeper of Numismatics at the time about putting something together to publish but it never got off the blocks. It certainly would be interesting to see the range (or prehaps lack of) of designs etc.
