********************* CALL FOR PAPERS *********************
SUBMISSION DUE DATE: September 30, 2009
SPECIAL ISSUE ON Information Retrieval, Decision Making Processes and
User Needs in Ubiquitous Computing
International Journal of Advanced Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing
(IJAPUC)
Guest Editors:
Rahat Iqbal, Coventry University, UK

John Halloran, Coventry University, UK
INTRODUCTION:
The International Journal of Advanced Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing
(IJAPUC) invites authors to submit papers for a special issue on
Information Retrieval, Decision Making Processes and User Needs in
Ubiquitous Computing. The special issue follows the iUBICOM 2009
workshop on the same topic held on 6th July 2009 at the University of
Birmingham in association with the 26th British National Conference on
Databases. This call is open to researchers who did not attend the
workshop or the conference.
OBJECTIVE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE:
A particular focus of the special issue will be how user needs could be
incorporated into the enhanced design of ubiquitous computing systems
such as smart homes, assistive technologies, and collaborative systems.
Such systems capture information of various types in order to make
decisions which meet human needs, depending on the context. In order to
design and develop systems which can be successfully deployed, it is
necessary to take user needs into account from the outset.
We wish to attract a wide range of papers addressing the design of such
systems, and demonstrating results. We expect submissions from different
practitioners and researchers working in a variety of application and
domain areas.
RECOMMENDED TOPICS:
Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not
limited to) the following:
* User-centered design approaches for ubiquitous systems
* Collaborative and mobile computing
* Smart homes
* Assistive technology
* Requirements engineering methods for ubiquitous and
collaborative systems
* Ethnographically-informed system design
* Context aware systems
* User modeling
* Approaches, methods and techniques for information
representation and retrieval
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this
special theme issue on Information Retrieval, Decision Making Processes
and User Needs in Ubiquitous Computing on or before September 30, 2009.
All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another
publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE JOURNAL'S GUIDELINES
FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at
http://www.igi-global.com/development/author_info/guidelines
submission.pdf. All submitted papers will be reviewed on a
double-blind, peer review basis. Papers must follow APA style for
reference citations.
ABOUT the International Journal of Advanced Pervasive and Ubiquitous
Computing (IJAPUC) is a refereed, international journal that specializes
in publishing any work that deals with aspects of the emerging pervasive
and ubiquitous computing field relevant to the Information Systems
discipline. Published articles may include coverage of challenges,
opportunities, problems, trends, and solutions encountered by both
scholars and practitioners in the field of Information Systems. IJAPUC
emphasizes pervasive and ubiquitous aspects of Information Systems.
Articles published in IJAPUC deal with a vast number of issues
concerning usage, failure, success, policies, strategies, and
applications of information systems in emerging pervasive and ubiquitous
computing environments.
This journal is an official publication of the Information Resources
Management Association
