Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Human Computer Interaction (A180-09E)
Human Interface Technology Laboratory (HITLabNZ), College of Engineering
The purpose of the role of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer is to provide
valuable teaching services within the University primarily through the
supervision of postgraduate students, and to undertake high quality
research, whilst maintaining relevant professional practice and
administrative requirements.

Position Overview Applications are invited for a full-time continuing
(tenured) academic position at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level
(equivalent to a tenured US Assistant Professor or Associate
Professor, respectively) in the field of Human Computer Interaction
(HCI).
The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in one of the fields that
form the basis of Human Computer Interaction (Engineering, Computer
Science, Design, Psychology, Arts etc), or a closely related
discipline. A team mentality and, for those applying for the Senior
Lectureship, a strong research record must be in evidence, which is
expected to complement the current research efforts of the HIT Lab NZ.
The Human Interface Technology Laboratory New Zealand (HIT Lab NZ) is
a leading research centre for Human Computer Interaction based on
emerging technologies. Current research activity is focused on a
number of areas including Augmented Reality, Next Generation
Networking, Applied Interaction Design and Visualization, and emerging
areas such as Tangible User Interfaces and Perceptual Computing.
Experience in one or more of these areas is required and preference
will be given to candidates with experience in Augmented Reality
research and development.
HIT Lab NZ research is conducted in partnership with government, other
universities both in New Zealand and internationally, and with

The successful candidate will provide valuable teaching services
within the HIT Lab NZ and the University primarily through the
supervision of postgraduate students. Further responsibilities will
involve helping to develop curricula material and teaching into
undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computer Science and other
departments. In addition, the appointee will also spend some time
assisting with research in Augmented Reality and with externally
funded research projects.
There will also be some requirement for assisting in the
administration of the HIT Lab NZ Research Centre and in grant and
proposal writing. The successful candidate is also expected to engage
with industry and develop applied research projects.
