Fieldwork in London Network
Dear all,
Its just over a month to go before the FiLo workshop, so here is a reminder
about it. There is still time to register, become a member and present a
poster at the workshop if you want.
FiLo workshop, iCES, Regent¹s College, 18th September 2009 10am-4pm
The first Fieldwork in London Network workshop is being hosted by the
Institute of Contemporary European Studies (iCES), at Regent¹s College
<http://www.regents.ac.uk/> which in Regents Park in central London. The
nearest tube station is Baker Street. You can find directions and more
information here
<http://www.ebslondon.ac.uk/ICES/contact_us/how_to_find_us.aspx> .
Keynotes:
Professor John Eade <http://www.roehampton.ac.uk/staff/JohnEade/> from
Roehampton University and
Professor Daniel Miller <http://www.ucl.ac.uk/anthropology/staff/d_miller>
from UCL will be talking at the Workshop.
Discussion:
One purpose of the workshop is to brainstorm about the purpose, use and
direction of the network. We will hold a discussion of FiLo to get your
thoughts and ideas about it.
Poster Presentations:
€ We would like to have informal poster presentations from FiLo members
about their work. This is a good way for us all to find out a bit more about
each other¹s work.
€ We have a budget for printing participant¹s posters; this is an
opportunity to get a professionally printed poster which you can keep after
the workshop. The budget is limited so poster printing will be on a first
come first served basis.
€ If you wish to have your poster printed by us, please send us a pdf or
jpeg of the file you wish to be printed in A1 or A0 size before the 23rd of
August so that we can have them all printed in time.
€ We would also like to put images of the posters on the blog perhaps
attached to your profile.
€ Those of you who are unsure about poster presentations do not worry,
there will not be formal presentations at the workshop. There will simply be
a room where some posters are displayed so that you can talk about your work
to people and people can look at a visual representation of your work.
€ There is a post on the blog about poster presentations
<http://filonetwork.wordpress.com/2009/07/07/presenting-posters/> with links
to literature on the subject. This can act as a guide but you are free to
interpret your research however you like.
Registration:
Attendance at the workshop is free, but you must register in advance. Please
register before the 23rd of August. For funding / logistical reasons we must
know roughly how many people are going to attend as early as possible. To
Register please contact the FiLo e-mail address: [log in to unmask]
and tell us if:
* You are a member of FiLo and you would like to attend.
* You are a member of FiLo and you would like to attend and present a
poster.
* You are not a member of FiLo and you would like to attend (in which case
please tell us who you are and why you would like to attend).
* You are not a member of FiLo and you would like to attend and present a
poster (in which case please tell us who you are and why you would like to
attend / what your research is on).
Other costs:
€ Tea/coffee and lunch will be provided for all participants at Regent¹s
College.
€ At the end of the workshop there will be a guided walking tour of central
London for all participants.
More information:
€ The list of FiLo member¹s online profiles
<http://filonetwork.wordpress.com/filo-members/> is still fairly short so
please email us if you want your profile linked from the website these
links are some of the busiest on the site.
€ If you have any further questions you can e-mail the FiLo address:
[log in to unmask]
Please forward this message to anyone you think would be interested and
print out and display the attached poster on your door or department notice
board.
Looking forward to meeting you all,
The FiLo Team,
Ines, Fran, Angels, and Benji
