I am also going to be (as of Tuesday) away 'for a few days'. The plan is to meet Doug B at the top of Mt. Whitney (14,000 plus feet) on August 14. We're going to have one of those heightened conversations about poetry and the transcendent, albeit, often ellusive muses. On a more concrete - actually granite - level, we will, for example, speak about the crisis facing young poets who still want to publish their books in ink as applied to paper and bound in signatures between paper and/or boards under cloth. If you are in the vicinity of the mountain, you are welcome to join us. Wine and organic rations are welcome. The meeting will commence promptly at 10:00AM. Those who can quote Bolano's little known poetry by heart and whistle melodies between verses from Ornette Coleman's 1963 Swedish album are more than welcome. Use of the word 'awesome' is strictly forbidden.
Maybe see you there,
Stephen V
