If you go to the British Library catalogue at
http://catalogue.bl.uk/F/?func=file&file_name=login-bl-list
and enter cockfighting in the search box, you will get a list of 58 books
and editions of books relating to the sport. (Entering cockpits only brings
up titles relating to aeorplaces.) If you see anything particularly
interesting, you should be able to request it through your local library.
The online catalogue of the London Library at
http://www.londonlibrary.co.uk/collections/index.htm
gives some that do not come up on the BL search.
Google seems to me to produce quite a few useful hits if you enter the terms
cockfighting cockpits england. Are you after something specific?
I remember visiting Heversham in the Lake District forty years ago seeking
out the birthplace of a former bishop; not only did I find the cottage where
he was born and the ruin of the grammar school he went to (it was being used
as a sheepfold) - I was also directed to the cockpit, a sunken arena in the
grassland just behind it; a question about whether cockfighting still took
place was met by an evasive answer!
