I just spotted this:
http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Initiatives/Britain_Loves_Wikipedia via a
fairly prominent link on Wikipedia.
They'd like to partner with museums to organise events in which volunteers
take photographs (and perhaps notes from interpretation?) to help improve
Wikipedia.
I'd suggest that it's only really museums which allow photography and don't
have complicated copyright restrictions (ie not the National Portrait
Gallery) who should get involved. Given that though, it could be a good
opportunity to get some quality photographs of your museums (Creative
Commons licensed so that you can use them freely), and perhaps to improve
the coverage of your collections on Wikipedia
Potential participants should read Brooklyn Museum's write-up of the lessons
learnt from their Wikipedia Loves Art project:
http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/community/blogosphere/bloggers/2009/03/31/wikipedia-loves-art-lessons-learned-part-1-pre-competition/(summary:
keep it simple, and minimise your own workload).
The project lead is Mike Peel, who can be contacted at
