We're doing a similar thing here in our new Cardiff Museu

Hi Liz
We're doing a similar thing here in our new Cardiff Museum, but are also trying to do it for all the galleries (themes and eras), not just the 'modern' bits. We are going to be setting things in context slightly (so there will be an 'introductory' panel in each theme), but the rest of our interpretation is going to be very personal.
This is obviously slightly easier with the 'within living memory stuff' we're collecting - gets a little more tricky to find voices from the past, but we're getting some nice things from archive material, so it's coming together.
We've tested it in our temporary exhibition programme, so although I can't suggest a study trip to see anything (as we open next year, so there's nothing to see yet!) I'd be happy to chat to you about how we've done it in the past and what we're planning for the new museum.

Subject: [SHCG-LIST] Displays/exhibitions created through contemporary collecting/oral history projects?

Hi all
At Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, we are soon going to be developing a
gallery called 'Your Birmingham' which will create displays about
Birmingham people today and their views/ experiences of the city. We will
be developing content for this gallery through community collecting and
oral history projects. We are particularly interested in using first person
interpretations in this gallery rather than a curatorial voice.
We are really interested to find out about any museums who have developed
displays in a similar way in their permanent galleries or temporary
exhibitions as we are keen to arrange some study trips. A couple of
examples that have already been suggested to us are Museum of London and
Croydon. Can you add any more....?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Best wishes
Liz
