ESRC 1+3 /+3 studentships
Social Policy
The Department of Social Policy has one ESRC 1+3/+3 studentship quota award in Social Policy to start at the beginning of the 2009/10 academic year. The social policy group within LSE is one of the largest in the UK, with an international reputation for excellence. Its work has earned the top ranking of all UK institutions submitting research to the social policy unit of assessment in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008. It is able to a offer supervision in a very wide range of specialist topics. For details see:

The 1+3 award comprises one year's funding for the MSc Social Policy (Research) programme, followed by three years' funding for doctoral research. For the transfer arrangements from MSc to MPhil see:

The +3 award comprises three years' funding for doctoral research. Only applicants who have successfully completed a one year ESRC recognised MSc or equivalent are eligible for a +3 award.

Applicants should normally have a first class or good upper second class honours degree or equivalent.
