Dear Colleagues
The University of Birmingham is seeking to recruit a research fellow (24 months fixed-term contract) to be based in the proposed new Centre for Household Assets and Savings Management (CHASM). The Centre will be based jointly in the School of Social Policy (SSP) and the Birmingham Business School (BBS). Karen Rowlingson, Professor of Social Policy in SSP will be the Centre's Director with Andrew Mullineux, Professor of Global Finance in BBS as Deputy Director.
Assets, such as pensions, housing and financial savings, are becoming increasingly important in people's lives with a shift in responsibility from the state to the individual at a time of growing economic uncertainty and increasing wealth inequality and longevity. This is a major, and growing, area of interest for academics, the government, regulators, the financial services industry, and the voluntary and community sectors. The University of Birmingham is in a prime position to provide academic leadership in this important field and make significant contributions to evidence-based policy work. The Centre will address four key themes in this field
* Financial capability
* Wealth and the wealthy
* The role of the public, private and third sectors, alongside individuals and families in providing financial security
* International comparisons
This new Centre will provide a focus for world-class quantitative and qualitative research, developing an international and inter-disciplinary network of researchers, policy-makers and practitioners in this field.
