Hello everybody,
as I'm sure most of you already know, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority is
running a consultation on how we should teach and assess science at GCSE - see http://www.qca.org.uk/qca_22846.aspx for details.
Please encourage any science teachers you know to take part. This involves filling in a
lengthy questionnaire. For those people who don't have the time to do this, I am
collecting comments at www.howscience.co.uk and will be submitting a summary to the
QCA. However, filling in the questionnaire is, at present, the best way to make sure the
QCA take your views into account.
Many people I've spoken to think the consultation is not being taken seriously, that it is
just a "going through the motions" kind of exercise. One way to make sure this isn't the
case is to get as many people as possible to take part and to have our views published
openly.
I'm hoping to help make things easier by publishing summaries of the QCA documents at
www.howscience.co.uk - if you can help with this, please get in touch.
Thanks,
Alom Shaha
