External Relations Administrator
SGM plays a dynamic role in raising the awareness of microbiology to
policymakers, opinion-formers, the media, schools and the public. We need an
enthusiastic, flexible and self-motivated life sciences graduate to help run key
communications activities in the External Relations Office.
This varied job includes writing media releases, creating web pages on topical
microbiology issues, handling consultations, researching briefing papers,
helping to run science promotion events and dealing with inquiries from the
press. There is also the opportunity to contribute to our award-winning
magazine, Microbiology Today. Attendance at SGM conferences and some

Key attributes are: a sound knowledge of microbiology; good oral and written
communication skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and
initiative, accuracy and computer literacy. Experience in a science
communications role is desirable.
The post is permanent and will be based in Spencers Wood, near Reading.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within the
range £22,461 - £31,938.
