I would tend to agree with your formulation re DD & CT, Dave, though I personally
observed Davie's distress as his self-designation was reversed by the majority of those
who witnessed him. His poetry at times functioned as a variety of criticism, and I
extrapolate from his example. If I can't find a critical aspect to a poem I've written, then
I'm generally disappointed. I usually wince when someone calls me a "poet", and when I
can, I ask for a correction to "critic-poet".
