Although it was from a novel, Margaret Atwood wrote about Native Canadians using sleep
deprivation (through beating themselves with stinging nettles) as a way of meeting and
being guided by their gods. Given an emerging suggestion that sleep deprivation may be
involved with meeting the 'third man'. Does anyone know of evidence of sleep deprivation
allowing one to meet a 'third party' as part of religious or spiritual rituals. I remember the
emphasis on meeting one's own god/s and them coming to individually guide the person in
the ritual. Is their anything specific to 'adventurers' meeting the 'third man' who acts as a
guide?
