Dear all,
We hope you've been finding the resources in the July edition of the NRICH
website useful: http://nrich.maths.org
The month's mathematical theme is "Interpreting and Evaluating". Our problems involve aspects of the process of interpreting the information in a question and examining the solution, or methods used to get the solution.
For example:
- Are the assumptions and arguments made correct or appropriate?
- How does the solution relate to the initial problem?
- Can we make sense of someone else's finding?
- Can we compare strategies used?
The Teachers' Notes accompanying each problem suggest ways of encouraging students to discuss, interpret and evaluate the problems and their solutions, as a way of becoming better problem solvers.
Solutions to the July problems will appear in September.
The Curriculum mapping documents for all Key Stages have been updated
with new resources - see http://nrich.maths.org/curriculum
With best wishes from The NRICH Team
