Postdoctoral Fellowships in
"Theory and experiments in Ultracold Coherent Chemistry"
Valery Milner and Moshe Shapiro
Depts. of Chemistry and Physics, The University of British Columbia
Vancouver Canada.
We invite applications for two postdoctoral positions in experimental and
theoretical molecular and optical physics at cold and ultracold
temperatures. These openings are part of a Center for "Ultracold Coherent
Chemistry", recently established at UBC by the Peter Wall Institute for
Advanced Studies, consisting of 4 research groups from the Departments of
Chemistry and Physics, and are part of an ongoing experimental-theoretical
collaboration between the groups of Valery Milner and Moshe Shapiro. Both
positions are for a period of up to three years.
The experimental-theoretical project involves building a new source of
cold molecules and exploring various aspects of light-matter quantum
control, such as, piecewise adiabatic population transfers; optical chiral
purification; and uni- and bi-molecular reactions at ultracold
temperatures using ultrafast laser pulses.
The experimental candidate is expected to have experience in molecular
beams and ultra-high vacuum technologies and lasers. The theoretical
candidate is expected to be well versed in quantum mechanics, scattering
theory and the theory of light-matter interaction. A candidate interested
in combining experimental and theoretical work will also be considered.
If you are interested in being part in the exciting research described
above, while living in beautiful Vancouver, we encourage you to send your
application, containing your CV and list of publications, plus two
reference letters, sent separately by senior people of your choice, to:
for the experimental project, Valery Milner: [log in to unmask]
or
for the theoretical project, Moshe Shapiro: [log in to unmask]
