To fellow Meccsa members,
I apologise for circulating something that is not strictly academic, but I thought it might be of interest to fellow members. A friend of mine is offering free accommodation in a self-contained flat in the countryside near Edinburgh, in return for "good neighbour" attention to her elderly father. She feels it could offer an ideal retreat for someone working on a project. She explains the offer below. For more information, do contact her direct.
All the best,

Free accommodation in a self-contained flat in the countryside near Edinburgh -- ideal retreat for project. No specified time limit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My 87-year-old father Murdoch lives in a large, book-filled house in the countryside about 20 miles south of Edinburgh. The house has a separate furnished flat at the end of one wing with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and a sitting room with French windows out into the rather beautiful grounds of the old Ormiston Hall estate. (If need be another, adjacent single bedroom could also be made available).
My father is not in excellent health, but he has an enquiring and vigorous mind. Although he copes well, we (and he too…) feels that it is not desirable that he is always rattling around alone in his house. So we are looking for someone to come and live in the flat for either a short or a longer period of time. The flat would be rent free, but with contributions towards services.
We are NOT looking for anything paramedical or for a day long companion. Murdoch has a personal alarm in case of accidents and medics would be on call then. Some brief and non-intrusive contact a couple of times a day would be good, just to check that he’s OK. In other words, what he needs is a good neighbour.
A car is essential — it is two miles to the nearest village. The house would suit a single person or two friends or maybe a couple with a child. If you are interested or would like to know further details please call me, or email me, Amanda (tel: 01275 394594) at [log in to unmask]
