I'll bite...
It seems to hang on the whole 'where is the copyright' question, which
seriously does need clearing up.
the portraits are clearly in the possession of the NPG but I don't see
how there is anything to be gained by trying to control facsimiles of
those portraits.
I'm in favour of protecting the rights of a creator of original work
in order that his livelihood is not threatened by people making copies
and profiting from the sale of those copies. I'm not in favour of a
world where we can only know what something looks like, if we're
actually standing in front of it.
does a photo of a sculpture become a copyright infringement?
It would be interesting to see how it pans out, except I suspect the
only ones to profit will be the lawyers. Is the battle being fought
with Tax Payers money?
