Subject: Copac is changing: your input requested
We are beginning a major redevelopment of the Copac National, Academic,
and Specialist library catalogue service. The first stage of this work
will introduce a login version of Copac with a range of new personalised
facilities. Alongside this we will retain an open-access version of Copac.
With thanks to all those that tried out the initial Copac Beta interface
in May. We received very useful feedback and the comments are already
helping to inform both short and long-term interface developments.
We now have two new Copac Beta trial interfaces:
- A streamlined open-access Copac:
This offers search and export facilities and includes a new journal
table-of-contents display (where available).
- A personalised Copac interface:
A cross-search of your own library catalogue is the latest addition to a
range of new facilities offering a more personalised interaction. This
requires you to login to Copac.
The local library cross-search is currently only available for a limited
number of libraries, but if you belong to one of the following
universities you now have the option to send your Copac search to your
own library catalogue too. There will be a single merged result set for
records from Copac and your own library.
The searchable university library catalogues are:
Bournemouth, Bradford, Brunel, De Montfort, Derby, Dundee,
East Anglia, Hull, Keele, Kent, Lancaster University, Leicester,
Liverpool John Moore, Loughborough, Middlesex, Northumbria,
Nottingham Trent, Plymouth, Sussex, Teesside, Thames Valley, York,
York St John.
If you belong to one of these universities we would particularly
appreciate your views on this cross-search facility.
There is a very short feedback questionnaire for each interface. We
would appreciate it if you could fill in the questionnaire, or just
email the Copac helpdesk with any comments you may have.
You can access the Copac Beta Interfaces from the Copac homepage at:
http://copac.ac.uk/
The trial will be running until the 26th July.
The new interfaces are due for final release this summer.
If you have any questions about the service changes, or any general
comments about Copac, please get in touch with the Copac helpdesk

With thanks for your help.
