GP computer systems hold the list of patient visits made, with who made
them. (type of encounter; encounter doctor)
They hold the postcode of the practice, and of each patient at the time
of the visit.
So why don't they print out at the end of the year the mileage done on
visits by each doctor?
Applications exist and are easily and cheaply available which give an
optimal route between two points. They will even give an optimal route
through a number of points. Presenting a claim for the mileage by the
optimal route through the points visited on a day would usefully combine
simplicity and an audit trail to point to with a reasonable actual
estimate of the mileage covered on visiting.
One could generalise it further, but probably need not.
