Hi Gilly,
I now have a little more time to respond to your original email. An area to further explore
maybe in relation to the idea and connection between journey and memory, I am thinking
here of the Aboriginals of Australia who do not use a number system. Therefore maps,
distances and journeys are, I believe, described through songs, words, drawings and
paintings, memories embedded through the repetition of lines and marks or repeated and
chanted through the rhythms of words in songs.
Also the Polynesians tied together thin strips of wood to create a (waterproof) two
dimensional drawing, a sea chat for the journey they may have taken before or previous
generations may have taken, see link below
