MA in Youth and Community Studies

Subject to a sufficient number of qualified applicants, the University of
Malta shall be offering various courses at both undergraduate and
post-graduate level at the University Gozo Centre as from October 2009.
These shall include the Degree of Master in Youth and Community Studies
co-ordinated by the Department of Youth and Community Studies (Faculty of
Education, University of Malta).
The Degree of Master in Youth and Community Studies is intended to offer
advanced professional education and training for experienced youth and
community workers and related professionals, such as teachers and social
workers. The course should also appeal to sociology, psychology,
communications, anthropology, social policy, public policy and other social
science graduates who intend to specialise in youth and community studies at
post-graduate level. The course promotes the values of emancipatory
education geared towards equal participation of all young people within
their communities.
The course has two components:
* a taught component, extended over two years of part-time study, and
consisting of compulsory study-units for which 60 ECTS credits are assigned;
* a research component, extending over one year, which shall lead to the
presentation of a dissertation, written under supervision, for which 30 ECTS
credits are assigned.
