D.Vercity European Disability Arts and Culture Festival
Preston and Lancaster from Monday 24 August until Sunday 6 September
Disability arts goes to Lancashire. have a look at this fantastic programme:
* The festival starts with two seminars at Lancaster University and then UCLAN 'Disability arts as the cultural arm of the movement' with Stephen Hodgkins, Director of Disability LIB
* There will be 2 film festivals, one in Lancaster at the Dukes Theatre and one at the Mitchell Kenyon Cinema with a question and answer session with Mat Frazer, actor and Xavier Leret with the film 'Unarmed and Dangerous'. Dr Paul Darke will introduce Tod Brownings 'Freaks' with a seminar about 'Culture and Identity'. Liz Crow's films 'Frida Kahlo's corset and 'The real Helen Keller' are also on the programme.
* Motion Disabled installation will be at PRI, the Victoria Buildings, UCLAN during the festival and on Friday 4 September. Dr. Paul Darke will have a conversation with artist Simon McKeown.
* Bank holiday weekend Sunday 30 August and Monday 31 August: Blue Eyed Soul will perform 'TAKE; a walk in the park' in Avenham Park, Preston and then Williamson Park, Lancaster.
* Laurence Clark will be running comedy workshops for people who would like to try their funny skills followed by Spastic Fantastic at the Dukes in Lancaster and then at the Media Factory in Preston.
* The festival will also include exhibitions by local artists and arts students and offer a number of workshops led by disabled artists.
