I don't even know who Gaskell is, but I am extremely devoted to the
idea of a living breathing poetic culture that supports the folks that
are doing important work while they are doing it. I live in Wisconsin
which is traditionally one of the bottom 5 states in arts funding &
see very little support being spread around for local literature of
any ilk, & certainly not for innovative poetries. From the outside I
always though Canada Council did a great job in the 70s & 80s of
underwriting living breathing writing, including work outside the
university.
