FT Feature on Business Archives
I am writing a feature for the FT, looking at the many and varied roles that
archivists play in modern business. The broad theme of the article is how a
well maintained and well used archive can benefit companies commercially.
But, as part of this, I also want to reflect the professional challenges of
working as an archivist in a commercial organisation.
I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has ever faced a conflict
of professional and business interests, e.g. being asked to do something by
senior management that they felt conflicted with the profession's code of
ethics or being denied access to papers, because those papers contained
information that reflected poorly on the company or particular managers.
The incident could be from a current or a previous job. The archivist could
provide comment without being named in the article. If you do have a story
please get in touch ASAP.
