Following the successful launch of the National Strategy for Business Archives
in England and Wales earlier this month, a complementary strategy is being
developed for business archives in Scotland.
A strategy for Scotland will help improve and formalise existing good practice
for the care and management of business archives, to encourage new
developments and partnerships and to facilitate joint working with the
initiatives from the English and Welsh strategy.
The development of a National Strategy for Business Archives in Scotland is
being taken forward jointly by the Business Archives Council of Scotland and
the Ballast Trust with the support of the National Archives of Scotland and
the Scottish Council on Archives.
The Business Archive Scotland blog will be used to share news about the
development of the strategy and other items of interest and is available at:
http://businessarchivesscotland.blogspot.com/
It is important that the strategy reflects the requirements and opinions of
archivists, records managers, information and heritage professionals,
businesses and users. For these reasons a series of workshops are planned
for September as part of the consultation process to gather information about
how business records can be better protected, managed and promoted.
Details of these workshops will be circulated on listservs and via our blog once
they are confirmed and organised.
In the meantime we would welcome any comments or suggestions about the
strategy for Scotland and its development. Please contact either David Powell
([log in to unmask]) or Kiara King ([log in to unmask]).
Information about the National Strategy for Business Archives in England and
Wales is available on the Business Archives Council website at:
