Archives Assistant
Temporary to April 2010
0.8 fte
LGS Grade 3 Level 1: £14,250
An exciting vacancy has arisen for a temporary archives assistant at York City
Archives.
York City Archive and Local Studies collections are incredibly rich and diverse,
documenting 800 years of civic history. You will join the Archives at an
important stage in its development, with the City Archives and Family & Local
History library merging to form one service. You will play a key role in assisting
with the preparations for the move to a single service point within the City.
Assisting with frontline customer support, you will be an enthusiastic team
worker with a demonstrable interest in local history.
Duties will include working with archives and local studies staff to provide an
excellent level of customer service, from answering enquiries to retrieving
material and supervising the reading room. There will also be opportunities to
assist with preservation and cataloguing work.
Applicants should have a strong commitment to customer care, an interest in
history and good communication & IT skills.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience of archives, library and
heritage related professions and would be ideal for anyone interested in a
career in these fields.
