International Academic Projects are offering a 3 day workshop ' Plastics:
History, Technology and Conservation' at the British Library Centre for
Conservation in London from 21st to 23rd September 2009
conducted by Friederike Waentig.
This course looks at plastics in their historical and cultural contexts and
their place in the history of research into modern materials. The properties
and technologies concerning different plastics are considered together with
their mechanisms of deterioration. The afternoon sessions (case studies and
collection visits) will include discussion sessions on most recent
experiences in the conservation and curation of plastics, including those at
the British Library and major London museums.
