Dear colleagues,

This is the second circular to invite you to the meeting of the French
network of researchers in palaeogenetics that will take place September
14 to 16, 2009 in the Jacques Monod Institute in Paris.

The title of the meeting is :

Ancient DNA : from mitochondrial to
nuclear DNA, from the evolution of populations to the selection of
characters.

There will be the following sessions:

Mitochondrial DNA and conservation genetics, Palaeomicrobiology

SNP analyses

Whole genome analyses : palaeogenomics

Phylogenetic analyses

This meeting shall update us on the possibilities and limits of the
novel experimental approaches used in palaeogenetics and palaeogenomics
and shall give us the opportunity for in-depth discussions with some of
the most prominent researchers in the area, namely

Ian Barnes - Royal Holloway University of London, UK

Woolly mammoth, the megafaunal extinction, and what we've learned from
genomic approaches

Terry Brown - Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre, UK

Applications of new genome technologies in the study of plant ancient
DNA

Régis Debruyne – McMaster University, Ontario, Canada

Challenges for a new era in ancient DNA: facing the revolution of
high-throughput paleogenomics

Michel Drancourt – University of Marseille, France

Contribution of palaeomicrobiology to the evolution of pathogen
bacteria

Anders Götherström – Uppsala University, Sweden

Study of early cattle keeping in Northern Europe using ancient nuclear
SNPs

Matthias Meyer – Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary
Anthropology Leipzig, Germany

The Neandertal Genome Project - methodological issues

Mélanie Pruvost - Deutsches Archäologisches Institut, Berlin,
Germany

The domestication of the horse: Evolution of coat color and genetic
diversity

Stephan Schuster – Penn State University, USA

Learning from ancient extinctions using palaeogenomic approaches

Eske Willerslev – University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Ancient “Dirt” DNA:  Hunting the Molecular Past in
Sediments

...and there is still room for a few presentations and for
posters!

There will be no admission fee for the meeting, but due to the limited
number of places and the organisation of coffee breaks and lunches
registration will be required. Please fill in the
attached registration form.

The meeting will start on Monday September 14, at 2 pm and end
on Wednesday September 16 in the afternoon. On Wednesday September 16 in
the afternoon, there will be the possibility to attend a guided tour of
the Gallery of Palaeontology of the National History Museum of
Paris.

Hotel reservations via the internet :

There are plenty of hotels in Paris and rooms can be booked via the
internet. The Institute is located in the 13th arrondissement,

http://mimas.ijm.univ-paris-diderot.fr/ijm/toolbar/acces-paris-rive-gauche

close to the station "Bibliothèque Mitterrand" of the metro
line 14 and the RER C.

Any hotel located along one of these lines is convenient. Charming
locations that are still affordable are the 5th, 12th, 14th
arrondissement. You might also find something around
"Chatelet".

If you need help, please contact me.

I am looking forward to welcoming you in the Institut Jacques Monod in
Paris in September

Best wishes,

Eva-Maria Geigl
