We urgently require someone for consultancy work in Vietnam - see below. Ideal candidate:
- Available for some preparatory work & 11 day trip (Hanoi) in August, and further supporting work following trip (maybe 30 days in all inc trip)
- knowledge / experience of analysis of cluster sample-survey data
- knowledge / experience of maternal / neonatal mortality surveys in developing countries
There is a draft Terms Of Reference which I (or Julia Hussein - see below) can forward if interested.
Cheers
David

Dear all
I am urgently seeking a demographer/statistician/epidemiologist familiar with maternal and neonatal surveys to measure maternal mortality to do a piece of work in Vietnam. The consultant lined up for this has had to drop out at the last minute because the work originally planned for July is now ready to be done - but in August and the consultant is now not available.
A draft TOR is attached and an email from the technical co-ordinating officer explaining what needs to be done is copied below. Field data collection is finished, the data set is ready to be shared with the consultant in preparation for the field trip. The basic work required is to check the data set and provide guidance on analysis. The actual survey was a RAMOS type survey if I remember correctly, and we were involved in giving technical assistance in that first stage as well.
I am happy to provide any clarifications, and would be grateful if any of you are available, or if you can find suitable colleagues.
Best wishes
Julia

Dear Dr. Hussein,
Thank for your prompt e-mail.
[The consultant] can discuss with the research team on overal plan for data analysis to achive the objectives of the study. Then Vietnmease reasrchers can run soldfware by themselves to comput the outputs. Afterward she can provide futher support through e-mail.
Other things are how to "guess" the medical causes of neonatal deaths when information was obtained at home without patient records, how to do weigting of the results, how to define factors contributing to dealth based on data collected. These are the whole things that need face-to-face discussion and looking carefully at the data. This is reason I expect an expert with rich experience in data analysis for MNM survey and high commitmen to understand all issuies and guide the Vietnmese team.
I agree with your suggestion on finding other person for doing the work who meet our above requirments. When you inform us the name of the expert, then I will discuss with MOH on the date. However mid-August is a good time because data is ready for analysing.
Thanks and regards,
Bang
