Which is the largest consumer body in the UK, with over 650,000 members.
We are a registered charity and we plough everything back into consumer
interests and services for our members.
Which? is completely independent - we have no owners, shareholders or
Government departments on our back: we work on behalf of the consumer,
and nobody else so you're assured you're getting the very best advice
that's available.
At Which?, we're known for testing household products like washing
machines and digital cameras. But that's not all we do. Confronting
important consumer issues is also a key part of our work. Tackling
everything from mis-selling to hospital food, our commitment to
providing unbiased advice to consumers is still at the heart of
everything we do.
The Statistics team provides the majority of the statistical analysis
which is used in Which?'s publications and campaigns. The bulk of its
work involves complex statistical analysis of data from various sources
including laboratory product tests, surveys and gardening trials. These
analyses are used in all Which? publications, in particular in the
determination of the product /star ratings and best buys.
The team is a key part of Which?'s Insight department and, in addition
to the above, offers statistical support to the Insight Researchers,
analysing survey and other quantitative data, the results of which are
used across the entire organisation. Further, the Statistics team
develops databases and other simple applications for use across Which?.
Our clients look to us to provide expertise and advice on statistical
methods, analysis techniques and sampling for the experiments and
surveys they carry out. For these purposes, the team has developed its
own custom-built statistical analysis programs and uses these as well as
the more common applications to carry out its work. Any new
methodologies that the team uses are developed as required.
The Which? Statistics team is looking for a Statistician to provide
statistical support and advice with specific responsibility for design,
analysis and evaluation of research results and experiments (including
product tests and user trials) to add insight. This person should have a
Mathematics/Statistics degree , with preferably a higher degree in an
appropriate subject. Some commercial work experience would also be
highly beneficial.
