It is worth considering whether this phenomena is related to famous
individuals performing heroic deeds, or whether these are just famous
instances of something rather ordinary.
I recall on 24 hour orienteering events in the wee small hours of the
morning feeling there was someone with me. I am neither famous nor
heroic, so that rules those out as factors. I am more towards the non-
entity / cowardly end of the spectrum. I think what I experienced was
rather prosaic - sleep deficit.
